Fifty-Fifty Plan
Tim & Vicki Reiner
in a Far Place
A Joint Venture with National Missionaries in Church Planting

The 50/50 Plan has been developed by missionary Tim Reiner. Tim was born and
reared in Brazil by missionary parents. He and his wife, Vicki, have worked as
church developers in Brazil since 1978. This concept is not intended as a
substitute for North American missionaries who work overseas, but a cost
effective way of sharing the load in exposing people to the Gospel. It is our
prayer that you will consider becoming a partner in this new joint venture of
church development.  Romans 10: 14, 15

What is the 50/50 Plan?

It is a plan designed to help support Brazilian national missionaries and pastors engaged in the starting of new
local churches through evangelism. The plan´s funds are raised and administered by a "sponsoring" North
American missionary, who then is responsible for the transferring and accounting of these designated monies.
The fund provides up to 50% of the Brazilian national missionary´s minimum support. He must raise the other
half among the national believers.

Why 50%?

Brazil is not a country of total poverty where the masses are dying from starvation. But, like many two-thirds
world countries, most people are financially poor. The 50/50 concept helps open and operate many new works
without creating total dependence on outside help, as well as, making it possible to generate twice as many
national missionaries for their cost of one. This would be a great encouragement to our believers on the field as
they realize that there is now grass roots interest in the start of their new churches. Much like a car´s weak
battery that at times needs to be "jumped", it does not totally rely on the strong battery. Cables that are hooked
up correctly are all it usually takes for a start up.

How are these Funds Controlled?

Your North American missionary raises and gives account for the 50/50 funds amongst his supporters. He avoids
physically handing the monies to the national church planter. This is done by setting up a system of using a
Brazilian Mission Agency or a well established church on the field, which is officially willing to channel these
funds on a monthly basis to the national worker.

How Can You or Your Church Become a Part of the 50/50 Plan?

The best way is through your missionary, who has adopted this concept. He is the one that is responsible to you
for the carrying out and accounting for such ministry. It is he who is on site and can see what needs to be done,
as well as, who needs the help to do it.

Why a Plan Like This?

Inexpensive programs that totally support nationals already exist on the foreign fields. Tough problems (such as
a lack of accountability, misunderstandings, and absolute dependency on U.S. funds) have been nagging such
formats for years. At the other end of the cost spectrum, is the North American missionary whose dollar has lost
much of its buying power over the last five years in Brazil. This could mean that the role of the North American
missionary should change to a more cost efficient and effective way of evangelistically starting churches in
these now higher cost countries. The North American missionary can become more of a "facilitator" and work
with several national couples under his 50/50 plan; thus, two, three, or even more churches are being started
simultaneously in his area of ministries. Such a method would not be used by a first term North American
missionary, but by those who have field experience, solid commitments, and rapport with the national believers.
