Tim & Vicki Reiner in a Far Place
With the plethora of fruits available in Brazil, recipes abound so they can be included in
the diet. The healthiest ways to eat fruits is without sugar; however, most people prefer
adding sugar to make them more palatable. A classic recipe is the wonderfully colorful,
refreshing, and quick-prep fruit salad. It is also nutrient and fiber-rich, as well as, low-cost.

Choose fruits that are ripe, yet firm. Combine complementary and appealing colors. Also
consider the other foods that will be served to make a prettier presentation.

Fruits available year round in Brazil vary

 Northeast Region

 Central-West Region

 South Region
Start your fruit salad with the basic fruit mixture of apples, oranges,
and bananas. Depending on your palate and the colors you prefer,
add several others. Brazil has lots! Can you name all of these? They
are labeled with their Portuguese names - what we call them in
Northeast Brazil. Click on the name of each one for more information.
I prefer my fruit salad without added sweeteners or just a tad of honey mixed with
plain yogurt. A favorite Brazilian topping is sweetened condensed milk. Here are a
couple of amazing toppings to add to your fruit mixture. You may need to adjust
the amount to your liking. They will keep well in the refrigerator for a few days.
